ABOUT PT-141 (BREMELANOTIDE): PT-141 is also known as Bremelanotide. It is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and an active metabolite of Melanotan 2.
It is made up of seven amino acids.
It belongs to the same family as Melanotan 2 and has a similar structure. The difference is that bremelanotide has a hydroxyl group at its end, while MT2 has an amide at its end.
Liquid bremelanotide works by stimulating the melanocortin receptors MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5. It, however, shows a high affinity for the MC4 receptor.
Activation of the MC receptors is involved in several biological processes, including skin pigmentation, sexual arousal, penile erection, appetite suppression, and pain reception.
A study involving hormone-primed female rats given bremelanotide showed increased sexual arousal. In male rats, it also showed spontaneous penile erection.
